Merchants / Guides / Taking payments
Text messages
Text your customers a pay link, a receipt, a failed-payment notice or a reminder before a scheduled payment runs, and use text codes for your own team's sign-in. Texts are off until you turn them on, and a customer is only texted when they have agreed to it.
Turning customer texts on
- Open your account page and choose Text messages.
- Tick the kinds of text you want to send. Each one is a separate switch.
- Save.
Who gets a text
- Only customers who have agreed to be texted, at the exact mobile number they agreed to. If you change a customer's phone number, ask them again.
- A customer can agree on the pay page after a successful payment, you can record it on the customer's page, or your software provider can record it for you.
- Only record agreement the customer really gave. Do not tick the box on their behalf.
Good to know
- US mobile numbers only.
- Texts are not sent between 9pm and 8am in your time zone. They wait until morning.
- A customer who replies STOP is never texted again until they reply START, and they must agree again after that.
- There is a monthly limit on texts per account. If you reach it, texts stop until next month. Emails are not affected.
Text codes and alerts for your own team
Each person on your account can add a mobile number under My phone in the menu.
- Verify the number. We text a six digit code. Type it in to prove the number is yours.
- Sign-in codes by text. Turn this on to get your sign-in code by text instead of email. If a text cannot be sent, the code is emailed instead, so you are never locked out.
- Text alerts. Get a text when a scheduled payment fails or your plan payment is overdue. An Admin must also leave Text our staff alerts about this account on for the merchant.
To change your number, enter the new one and verify it. To turn off sign-in codes by text you need your password. Remove deletes the number.
